What’s New at Enadia Way

For those of you who are new, or returning, to Enadia Way this year; we have some wonderful programs at our school!

P.E.: We begin Year 3 of our P.E. program. This year we purchased the position and we are absolutely thrilled with our credentialed P.E. teacher, Coach Alevras. He will be teaching P.E. to students in grades 1-5th every Thursday.

Computers: We are proud to continue our partnership with the amazing company called Computer Wise Kids. We have a computer teacher, Josue Sanchez, who is here every Wednesday (3rd-5th) and every Thursday (K-2nd) teaching computer skills and numerous technology programs and applications on our state of the art laptops and iPads in the classrooms.

Arts: This year the District has provided a full year of orchestra with Mrs. Barton, a credentialed instrument teacher in grades 3rd-5th (select students only). We also have a full year of Vocal Music with Mrs. Brockmann. Beginning the second semester, we have Visual Arts with Mrs. Isreal. I also just received confirmation that the L.A. Opera will return this year with a new production for our 4th graders. Also, the Opera will be piloting a STEAM program using set design and production with our 5th graders this fall semester. And if that isn’t enough, our TK and kindergarteners will participate in Guitars in the Classroom for the fall semester and learn how to play ukuleles!

Library: As in year’s past, Miss Wendy is returning as our librarian! Our library is open every Wednesday and Friday and every other Monday for library visitations and research.

Intervention: Mrs. Lloyd, a credentialed teacher, is returning as our Intervention teacher this year. She will be helping students in grades 1-5th with reading intervention in our library every Tuesday and Thursday and after school tutoring on Tuesdays.

Garden Lab: Every week all of the classes visit the school garden to participate in curricular activities and standards’ based lessons across the subject areas. The teachers plan lessons in all curricular areas that use the garden as a living laboratory in which students may explore using their senses in this amazing environment. Mr. Zavala, a community volunteer, and Master Gardener serves as garden docent to assist the teachers with the garden lessons. Students also plant and help maintain the garden.  Parent volunteers are desperately needed to assist with weekly watering of the garden and helping to care for the chickens! Please contact Mrs. Jeanne if you are able to help us out.

Farmer’s Market: Soon we will begin our Farmer’s Market in the front of the school. Volunteers and students are needed to help harvest the crops in the morning and then we sell them after school from 2:00-3:30. All monies given in exchange for the vegetables are a donation to the school and used to fund our garden project. Chick Inn: Our 14 chickens need to stretch their legs! Parent volunteers are needed to help hang bird netting!!! We want to protect the chickens from hawks before letting them free range around the Chick Inn. We know for sure that we have at least one rooster as he tries out his crow from time to time. With all the chickens in close proximity, we have not been able to identify the culprit yet! The rooster will be given to Red Barn as soon as we can figure out which one he is!

New Website: Our former website is no longer in use. We are transitioning to our new website, which should be fully functional in the next couple of weeks. Please bookmark it at: www.enadiaway.org.

Meal Applications

If you haven’t done so already, please go online to www.lausd.net to apply for free or reduced meals.  Even if you don’t use the meal program and prefer to pack a lunch, it is critical for our school’s funding that all families who are eligible for free or reduced meals apply annually! This year full price lunch is now $3.00! To avoid lost lunch money it is preferable that you add money to your child’s account by giving cash to Miss Blanca, the Cafeteria Manager, or go online and use “My Payment Plus.” You will need your child’s 10 digit ID to apply.

www.lausd.net > Office> Food Services> “My Payment Plus”- download the app and add money to your child’s account electronically!

Popsicle Sales

Starting this Friday we sell popsicles (and sometimes popcorn) after school in the lunch pavilion area. It costs $1 and all funds raised support our Student Body for field trips, assemblies, and the like. Please give your child $1 on Fridays, or come by yourself after school!

Back to School Night & Uniform Sales, 8/30!

Please mark your calendar for Back to School Night! This is an adult meeting, so if at all possible, please keep the kids at home. The meeting is in the auditorium from 4:30-5:00 with classroom visitations from 5-6pm. Carrusel will be back selling embroidered polos in front of the school from 2pm-6pm.
