Fall 2017 School Calendar Survey

LAUSD is asking for our opinion as to what school calendar(s) we would like to see for elementary, middle, and high school students. The survey asks us if we would like for school to start in August, or after Labor Day. How many days off would you like for Thanksgiving? How many weeks off for the winter break? Should high school students start school after 8:30 a.m.? Should high school students have a different calendar than elementary and middle school students (presumably to meet college summer school enrollment dates)? Please answer this survey in paper or on line by 9/28! We will all have to live with whatever is decided for many, many years to come! We are collecting the paper surveys in the Main Office. Unfortunately, no surveys will be processed after 9/29.

9/27 School Leadership Councils Election & Orientation, 2:30-3:30

All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend our school leadership councils (SSC, Governance, and ELAC) orientation and election of members and officers this Wednesday. If you are interested in being on the joint leadership council that collaborates to make the decisions for our school, please join us! All school parents are welcome!

Fall Picture Day, 10/4

The fall portrait is the school’s official portrait of your child. This portrait is uploaded into the student information system, used to make library ID cards, student ID cards, and is used on your child’s cumulative folder (permanent record). As such, this portrait is taken in school uniforms. Please make sure you child is in his/her cleanest navy blue or light blue polo (no white!) for the portrait. Students forgetting to wear their school uniform will be given a loaner to wear for the portrait. You may accessorize, as you like. This year, the class picture will be a composite of all the portraits so that no absent students are left out. In the spring we offer spring portrait day as a free dress opportunity for you to choose any dress style that you prefer for your child’s optional spring portrait.

Fall DJ Dance Fundraiser Meeting, 10/6 at 11:00 a.m.

A signupgenius invitation went out to all processed school volunteers for this fundraiser meeting. If you did not get the email, and would like to assist with the planning process, please join us! This year we are planning a Fall DJ Dance Fundraiser on 10/27. This fundraiser would replace our Movie Night. The concept would be the same, except that instead of “watching” a movie, the children would dance with their parent(s) in our MPR!

School Garden Volunteers

You may have noticed that our Chick Inn is really looking great! Thank you to our parent volunteers (Mr. Trevino, the Rodriguez’, the Warkentins, the Guptas, the Bowens, the Tomasello, and the Cazas) who have really stepped up to help with gardening, watering, and taking care of the chickens. We have 4 families that each take a rotating weekend to care for and feed the chickens. Thank you so much, parents, for stepping up and helping out! The Farmers Market will start in early November as we are just planting the fall crops now!
